Battle of the Beasts 2016

When: Sunday October 30th

Where: Crown Plaza, Colchester, Essex

Over the past few months, we’ve been working hard to deliver the best competition jump ropes in the world, to the UK.

We’ve partnered with some of the UK’s top CrossFit athletes, including Mitchell Adams, and we’re hoping to meet lots of new friends and fans at Battle of the Beasts.

If you’re a box owner, we’ll be bringing all of the information and expertise needed, to get started as an official Velites partner — more on that later.

About Battle of the Beasts

You’d never guess that Battle of the Beasts is only in its third year, with thousands of spectators packing the arena to cheer on some of Europe’s best athletes.

It’s a one-day event, filled with all out fitness and displays of awesome strength. Last year crowds were treated to a three-on-one challenge with current CrossFit Games champion Katrin Davidsdottir, and this year that honour goes to former champion Annie Thorisdottir.

We saw some pretty nasty WOD last year, including a Fran ladder to finish, and we’re super excited about what’s on offer in 2016.

WOD 16.1

2k Row

EMOM perform 1 Thruster, 2 Thrusters, 3 Thrusters….. 42.5/30kg

Score = Row For Time

We love this one. The ascending thrusters mean that the more time you spend on the rower, the more thrusters you’re going to end up doing. We think there’ll be some rapid times here, as athletes fight to stay away from that barbell.

WOD 16.2

‘Powerlifting total’

10min to achieve your 1RM:

Back Squat

Bench

Deadlift

Score = Total Weight

A classic, and always a crowd-pleaser. We think this is great programming from event organiser Carl Saville. People love to see athletes maxing out, and we wouldn’t be surprised if we saw some deadlift attempts close to the 300kg mark.

WODs 16.3a and 16.3b

(Running clock into part b)

Part A:

2-4-6-8-10-12-14…..

Hang Power Snatch & Overhead Squat 42.5/30kg

3min AMRAP

Score = For Reps

Part B:

21 DU’s

15 Wallballs 9/6kg

9 T2B

7min AMRAP

Score = For Reps

Say goodbye to your grip in part A, and hello to your lungs in part B. Another fantastic bit of programming to test technique and stamina. And of course, we’ll be loving the double-unders.

Ones to Watch

Mike Catris, Dragon CrossFit

Winner of the 2015 Battle of the Beasts. He moves well and he’s strong as hell.

PD Savage, CrossFit 8020

Northern Ireland’s CrossFit 8020 turns out some impressive talent, including 6th place Regionals athlete Emma McQuaid. We’re looking forward to seeing PD Savage compete.

Alec Harwood, CrossFit Bath

When you successfully re-rack 155kg, it almost doesn’t matter that you missed the jerk. Alec is a Regionals athlete who might well win the whole thing.

Philip Thun Bisgaard, CrossFit Copenhagen

Hang snatch 136kg and you can celebrate however you like. Your mate can even get his bum out.

Tom Milner, CrossFit Slough

We’re liking what we see with Tom Milner. Super strong and aggressive with the barbell, we think he’s going to go hard when it’s competition time.

Dudley MacDonald, NewWave CrossFit

Because he’s a great athlete, and because he does triple-unders with the VRopes Fire 2.0.

Laura Horvath, CrossFit Duna

Just 19 and already one of Europe’s most talented CrossFitters. Laura qualified in first place this year. Also a Regionals competitor.

Helena Falk, CrossFit Solid

Falk competed at the CrossFit Games with her team CrossFit Solid in 2015 and 2016, and she’s a strong competitor for the top spot at Battle of the Beasts, too.

Megan Lovegrove, CrossFit Tyneside

An awesome British talent, who always pushes for the top spot at every single competition she enters.

Ania Krasnopolska, Blitz CrossFit

Without a doubt one of the strongest athletes at Beasts, Ania will be cycling those weights on the barbell like nobody’s business.

Charlotte Spence, CrossFit 8020

Another incredible athlete out of CrossFit 8020, keep your eye on Spence.

Ellie Flaherty, CrossFit 1878

We’re supporting Ellie as she takes part in the teens division of Battle of the Beasts. Can’t wait to see her throw down, should be a lot of fun. Let’s go, Ellie!

As usual, we’ll be offering 15% off all Velites products at Battle of the Beasts, with a 10% on all online orders (code: BEASTS16) throughout the entire weekend.

We’re looking forward to meeting you all there.
